On October 16th, 2010, members of the 164th Airlift Wing's bike team created and participated in the first annual Sherry Boyer Simmons bike ride. The founders of this ride are Master Sergeant David Joachim, Master Sergeant Mary M. Keenan and Master Sergeant Daniel Walker. These individuals, as well as all the members of the 164th AW bike team are true advocates for the fight against cancer.

Sherry Simmons, who was the unit historian for the 164th AW 155th Air Squadron, recently passsed away due to cancer and this bike ride is held in her honor. Her husband and son are members of the 164th AW.

Since the 164th AW already had a bike team, the members decided to start the memorial bike ride in order to bring about donations and awareness for the fight against cancer.

"So Many have been, and continue to be affected by cancer. We're hoping this relay for life will help save lives and educate people," said Marilou Pampo.
