Col Hicks Retirement

On June 5th, 2010, members of the 164th AW in Memphis TN gathered for the retirement ceremony of Colonel Gary Hicks. This ceremony showcased the many achievements of Col Hicks (RET) during his 38 year career with the United States Air Force and the Tennessee Air National Guard which culminated on May 30, 2010..  During the ceremony, Col Hicks (RET) was presented with the Legion of Merit for his exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements. This award is one of only two United States military decorations to be worn around the neck.

                As family, friends and co-workers watched on, Col Hicks (RET) was presented with various certificates of appreciation, all the while, referred to and spoken of as a true leader and model airman throughout his career.

                Many of the speakers and presenters referred to Col Hicks (RET) retirement as a bitter-sweet affair. All in attendance remembered and thanked him for his service, as well as wished him luck on his civilian endeavors.

                Col Hicks (RET) closed the ceremony with a few brief, heart-felt words. "I will never forget all the people and experiences I have had here. What a great group of folks you all are".
